The number of containers processed at the Ports of Auckland and Tauranga is set to rise from 1.6 million per year now to 2.8 million.
50 tonnes of freight is moved around New Zealand per person per year, with the majority in the Golden Triangle.
In 30 years it is estimated that 172 million tonnes of freight will need to be handled by Auckland, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty regions. That’s an increase from 106 million tonnes in 2012.
